A Wise Latina

The other day as I watched a group of elderly and unhappy white guys trying to intimidate a small Hispanic woman of Latin ancestry, I could not help but admire Sonia Sotomayer’s composure and grace under fire from so many Republican men who seemed obsessed that the largest ethnic minority in the United States would dare try to judge legal opinion. I heard Senator Orrin Hatch said that she had once declared nunchucks as potentially violent weapons. I head some other angry Republican accuse her of intimidating an attorney once in oral arguments. Somebody else questioned whether she is really a wise Latina and would apply the law in a racial based manner, which good Republicans certainly never would do.

I watched as the days went on and decided it was overdue that Latinos had a voice in our legal system from the highest level. A voice to apply the legal system fairly and impartially to which help that poor attorney defend himself against that lone Latina who would ask him to be prepared for court. That the intimidating Judge was a lady who had worked her way up from the death of her father and a single mother family life to have years of experience on the bench, and had enough respect for the law as to be prepared to render judgment on legal matters.

Now I know Senator Orrin Hatch would not give the cowering attorney nunchucks to defend himself against the wise Latina, but maybe he could loan him the jawbone of an ass for his defense.
