While You Were Sleeping

While you were sleeping, 28 more Americans soldiers died in Iraq. One hundred Iraqis died in two market suicide bombing and 70 students also died at the hands of suicide bombers. Several more Iraqis died from the revenge attacks of sectarian violence in reprisals from the above deaths. Countless Iraqis were injured and maimed and taxpayers spent $270Million to pay for it. President Bush outlined a plan to send 21 thousand more troops to Iraq as a way forward. I guess it’s like a dog going into the forest; it can only go in half way, until it’s going out. He denounced The Iraq Study Group’s findings as another plan for withdrawal instead of victory. The way to get out of Iraq is instead to get more in. The same victory that he has found impossible to define and he certainly has reinvented success several times since victory was declared in May of 2003. That victory was because we invaded Iraq to destroy weapons of mass destruction. That victory was to be costless and had us greeted saviors within six months. There seems to have been a change in plans.

Bush also proposed health insurance for millions of Americans who cannot afford the coverage by taxing the Americans that have good insurance. He believes in giving tax relief to Americans that barely pay taxes to get insurance coverage they can’t afford from taxes they don’t pay. Meanwhile the alternative minimum tax will erode middle class Americans this year at tax time, which is delayed until the millionaires all get the tax breaks that the Republicans gave them in December before the Democrats became the majority in Congress in January.

Bush appears to have discovered global warming now that a 41 square mile chunk of ice has broken free from the Artic and polar bears are drowning because they become stranded on floating, melting islands of ice looking for food. We are also going to seek alternative forms of energy just as soon as we figure out what they are and how to create them. We are going to increase fuel efficiency in cars like we have in light trucks. Does anybody have a light truck that gets anywhere near the fuel efficiency of the average passenger car?

Bush also has a prior plan to save Social security. We are going to save Social Security by destroying it. We are going to prepare for our old age by allowing fund investors to churn Social Security funds into big paychecks for someone’s future.

I just thought you might like to know what happened while you were sleeping. Now you can go back to sleep.
